How these teams are picked

For each region and each of the four formations, the heaviest spots are filled first with the best fits, then every pair of players is swapped, and every starter tried against the best bench options, until no change raises the Team Score. The best formation is kept. Fits and Team Score follow the game's scoring; how Team Score works explains the weights, and the best lineups page has the same search for the challenge pools.

Questions

Which region has the best All 22 Pokémon team?

Without Legendaries, Paldea: its best 22 rate 1000 on the 17–0 Team Score scale, with Flutter Mane at quarterback. Kalos is last at 857. With Legendaries allowed, 6 of the nine regions reach the 1000 cap; only Kanto (970), Johto (940) and Kalos (950) fall short.

Why do some regions score lower?

The four weakest starters count for 18% of the Team Score on their own, so a region is only as good as its thinnest positions. Kalos's four weakest are Trevenant at tight end (56.0), Malamar at outside linebacker (56.4), Gourgeist at outside linebacker (58.8), Gogoat at offensive line (59.1). Paldea's four weakest are Slither Wing at outside linebacker (70.9), Iron Crown at safety (73.2), Meowscarada at cornerback (73.6), Iron Leaves at outside linebacker (74.0).

Do Legendaries help much?

It depends on the region. Hoenn gains the most, 95 points, because its Legendaries fill spots its regular Pokémon can't. In the game's builder Legendaries are off by default and the 17–0 Challenge caps them at three.

Can I load these teams into the game?

Yes. Each team has an "Open it in the game" link in the builder's own share format, and a "Rate or edit" link that opens it in our team rater, where you can swap players and see the score change.
